1. Who We Are

BroadbandSpeedTest.uk.com is operated by Dot Com Ventures, registered in the United Kingdom. Our website address is: https://broadbandspeedtest.uk.com.

2. What Data We Collect

When you use our speed test, the following data is processed:

  • Speed test results — Download speed, upload speed, latency, and jitter measurements
  • IP address — Used to determine your approximate location and ISP
  • Technical data — Browser type, device type, and operating system

Speed tests run directly between your browser and Cloudflare's test servers. To build our public speed statistics (leaderboards, ISP rankings and town pages), we store each result with: download, upload, ping and jitter; your ISP name; your approximate town; your postcode district only (for example “LS6”, never your full postcode); and an anonymised IP address with the last part removed (for example 81.2.69.0), which we use to block spam and duplicate results. We do not store your full IP address.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use limited data to:

  • Display your speed test results in real time
  • Show your approximate server location
  • Publish anonymised speed statistics, such as ISP rankings, town pages and monthly reports
  • Detect and remove spam or duplicate results
  • Improve our website experience through anonymised analytics

4. Faster Broadband Alerts and Broadband Providers

If you ask us to tell you about faster broadband at your postcode, we keep your email address, postcode, your speed test result and the provider you were tested on, along with a record of when you agreed and the wording you agreed to. We only do this if you tick the consent box — it is never pre-ticked.

We use these details to email you about faster broadband where you live. With that same consent, we may pass your email address and postcode to broadband providers (including independent full fibre networks) that serve your area, so they can send you offers. We only share details with providers covering your postcode, and only for this purpose. Our lawful basis is your consent.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us. We will then stop emailing you and stop sharing your details. We keep these details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.

5. Cookies

We use essential cookies to ensure the website functions correctly. We may also use analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use our site. These cookies collect information anonymously and do not identify you personally.

You can control cookies through your browser settings at any time.

6. Third-Party Services

When you run a speed test, data is transmitted through our third-party testing infrastructure. We use the following third-party services:

  • Cloudflare — Speed test servers
  • ipapi.co — Looks up your approximate location and ISP from your IP address
  • Supabase — Database for speed test results and alert sign-ups
  • Coolify and Hetzner — Website hosting (EU data centres)
  • Resend — Sending emails, such as faster broadband alerts and contact form replies
  • Stripe — Payments from advertisers (we never see full card details)
  • Google Analytics — For anonymised site usage statistics
  • Google AdSense and other advertising partners — Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.

7. Data Retention

Speed test results are kept in anonymised form (as described above) for as long as we publish statistics. Faster broadband alert details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to reply. Anonymised analytics data may be retained for up to 26 months in accordance with our analytics provider's policies.

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access any personal data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Lodge a complaint with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office)
